The "Balances" section depicts the situation of Germany and Europe in the face of the above challenges. Special attention is paid to the question of how the German environmental balance has developed over the last fifteen years and how far this country is from the goal of sustainability.
To what extent does Germany contribute to the global ecological disaster and to what extent to its containment? Further, given that Germany and Europe are merged into the world economy on various levels, the magnitude and direction of the flow of products and investments across the borders must be determined, keeping sight of the fact that Germany’s economy is strongly dependent on exports, and that these exports are rarely sustainable.
