Reason for hope, if we become active now

Porträt Konrad von Bonin, Vorstandsvorsitzender des EED

The Church Development Service (EED) has co-commissioned the study »Sustainable Germany in a Globalised World«. Thus the EED wants to stimulate a public debate that will certainly become rather intense in the run-up of the general elections 2009.
I am convinced, that it is necessary to link politically the North-South horizon more closely to the environmental horizon than before. In order to achieve that, the EED as an evangelical institution forms new alliances. Because dealing with climate change is above all a question of justice – that applies for the North as well as for the South. Without a convincing solution to the issue of justice, people will continue to leave their home because their livelihood is threatened.
»The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; He makes me lie down in green pastures« the 23rd psalm begins. There is reason for hope, if we become active now. It is not too late to do something: as consumers, as citizens and also as active churchgoers. The EED has taken care that the experiences of its international partners were included in the study’s analysis. The EED advocates increasing the (necessary) pressure on politics and economy to give our world a good chance for the future.
